AI Robots – Unlocking Endless Possibilities

Upon its unveiling to the world in 2016 as the first AI robot, David Hanson’s Sophia caused quite a stir. From becoming a cultural icon and trending the internet, Sophia’s reveal has raised many questions regarding AI robots. Of course, the uncanniness induced by their mere presence owing to their perceived subjectivity has startled humans. Even the idea of a post-human or a trans-human entity navigating the world causes ethical and moral concerns.

Are AI Robots: A threat or not?

Some might take the increasingly advancing technological and digital world as a threatening and worrying event. The presence of AI has shifted the necessary existence and labour requirement of companies. It has brought the possibility of ease, quicker results, and fewer risks to the table. Although, some believe it has wiped the distinction between what is human and what is not. And also that it will expansively take over the market space leaving plenty jobless. The human being will no longer have a space in the economic structure.

The question then is whether or not AI robots are inherently evil. Well, the answer is, no AI robots are ethically and morally neutral. They are, as some might consider, only projections of humanity’s worst nightmare. But a sentient being capable of being conscious poses a concern to humanity. AI robots are as threatening as any human we interact with.  They are no more a threat than a benevolent entity. They are what we deposit them to be.

Is AI Robot Autonomy a possibility?

With advances in technology, the fear of autonomous robots is parallel to the intrigue surrounding such a potentiality. Where the Kantian sense of the term entails a moralistic bend to an individual’s nature, the AI universe was born irrespective of the autonomous capabilities of AI robots. An AI robot requires multiple fed transcripts from the ability to handle a simple chat to navigate a particular space. And to even more complex reactions to movement and the environmental changes.

The autonomous nature of artificial intelligence relies entirely on a human’s capacity to gauge future interactions and hurdles. The limits of the human mind and consciousness is not a secret to the universe. Therefore, a completely autonomous and independent AI robot, able to function on its own, and cartograph the unreliable and unpredictable earth is perhaps a dream or a phantom. However, to completely write off wholly autonomous machinery is quite a hasty decision too.

Furthermore, autonomous AI owing to the extremely sophisticated technology required, doesn’t have a pocket friendly version to it. The ultimate dream is to create technology that is upgradeable as well as expansive in its reach. This scalability might become a myth if the sole focus of technology is to develop autonomous AI. A functional, practical, and comfortable on the budget AI might require us to dump the idea of independent machinery temporarily.

Resolving the Autonomous AI robots ’conundrum

A temporary solution is to create a robot-human bond. A relationship where humans overlook and monitor the movements and are present to respond quickly if the situation arises. Of course, this raises the question of whether an AI robot is autonomous. If it is autonomous, does it require 24/7 round the clock surveillance? Is it a similar situation to driving a toy car with a controller? Perhaps, but when the object of control switches from toy cars to sentient beings, the lines become hazy. Controlling a sentient being might not be up to every individual’s alley; the added responsibility might not be welcome. Nevertheless, for the moment, this is a necessary component to push forward. Also, to advertise the role AI robots will play in the future.

AI Robots are a necessity for the new world order

Coronavirus pandemic has radically changed the way the world functions.  As a result, it has brought the necessity for AI robots into a new light. With social distancing in practice, the demand for artificially intelligent robots is on a rise. From carrying out daily chores, to their presence on oil rigs and industrial refineries in the deep seas, artificial intelligence is becoming a newly formed essential. Autonomous AI robots can function without the presence of staff on-site, reducing the risk of humans inhabiting risk-prone environments, and the cost of maintaining such a team. Humanity’s carbon footprint might reduce. These advantages can cause industries to push towards the market-wide availability of autonomous machinery.

An autonomous AI robot is expected to function fully without human interference and control. They are expected to avoid harmful events and adapt and improvise according to the changing situations. Autonomous robots are not limited to research only; they’re being utilised in every walk of life. From waiter robots in restaurants to assistants in healthcare segments.

AI robots can additionally reach geographical spaces that are unhomely to human beings and achieve multifold what we can only imagine. As opposed to common believes, robots aren’t a threat to human employment. Rather, they increase our reach in unimaginable ways. Development of AI in robotics has made it plausible to work in dangerous facilities, which would have been life-threatening before. Coupled with the reduced risk to labour and a higher success rate, AI robots offers a frightening but yet exciting future we have been waiting for.
